Login to your IRC Account
IRC Authentication
To login to your IRC account when you connect to irc.AbleNET.org use:/msg AuthServ@Services.AbleNET.org AUTH [account] [password]
DO NOT TYPE THE [ and ]! [ ] indicates required fields.
This command authenticates you with AuthServ to the specified account. You must use auth before you have any access to network services, including channels that are registered with X.
AuthServ is the services bot on AbleNET responsible for user authentication. End users can register new accounts and login to existing ones by using the REGISTER and AUTH commands, respectively. Users can also change their passwords, update the legal hostmasks for use on their account, or set a vacation flag.
AuthServ is not the same as "NickServ" commonly found on other networks. AbleNET does not agree with the concept of "nick ownership"; nicknames are considered to be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. (Exceptions are made for the nicks of services bots, which are inaccessible to users regardless). AuthServ will not prohibit any user from using any nick at any time. Please do not ask IRCOPs to /KILL or G-line a user for using "your" preferred nick; it will not happen.
All users have the ability to see the account name of authenticated users by using the /WHOIS command in your IRC software. This value, rather than a user's nick, is a far more authoritative data point for ascertaining someone's identity.
