Getting started with IRC

IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, is a popular live chat protocol. The instructions below will tell you how to find your way to AbleNET to meet new people and have interesting chats with people around the world.

Step 1: Install an IRC client

Regardless of what Operating System you are using, be it Linux, Windows or Mac OS, you can find an IRC client for your Operating System of choice. You can find an IRC client to suit your needs in our IRC Client Reference Center.

Step 2: Configure the IRC client

You need the following information:

Screen name: Any name you like. No spaces allowed.
Server: irc.ablenet.org
Channel (room): #AbleNET

Follow the startup instructions and in the event that you start up and do something wrong, you can always type the following in the server window:

1. type '/server irc.ablenet.org'

2. type '/join #AbleNET

3. Say 'Hello' and have fun
